Virginia Couples Intensives

Private Couples Therapy Intensives in Virginia

Chad Stiles, PhD, LMFT provides private couples therapy intensives for eligible couples in Virginia. Intensives are available virtually and through individually arranged private in-person settings.

For couples who feel that a traditional weekly hour does not provide enough continuity for the work in front of them, an intensive creates protected clinical time to understand recurring patterns, slow difficult interactions down, and practice different responses.

Protected Clinical Time

More time for the pattern, not just the argument.

An intensive is concentrated couples psychotherapy for one couple at a time. The work explores recurring triggers, emotional and protective responses, escalation, withdrawal, and what each partner may be communicating beneath the conflict.

There is time to slow an interaction down, practice a different response, and identify practical next steps. Pacing, breaks, emotional regulation, and clinical judgment remain part of the process. More time does not mean more pressure or a guaranteed outcome.

Weekly therapy and intensive therapy serve different needs. The consultation helps determine whether concentrated work is appropriate for your relationship, rather than assuming that an intensive is the best choice for everyone.

What happens during an intensive

Virtual Care

Virtual Couples Intensives in Virginia

Virtual intensives are available to eligible clients when applicable physical-location and licensure requirements are met at the time of treatment. Where each partner will physically be during the intensive is part of the fit and scheduling conversation.

One-Day Virtual Couples Intensive

$2,000

Best suited for a relatively defined relationship pattern, recurring conversation, or focused goal when clinically appropriate. One protected day provides concentrated time around a clear clinical focus.

Two-Day Virtual Couples Intensive

$3,500

Designed for more longstanding, layered, or interconnected concerns when additional time for pacing, regulation, practice, and integration is appropriate. Two days is not automatically a better clinical choice; the scope of the work matters.

Individually Arranged Care

Private In-Person Couples Intensives in Virginia

Two-Day Private In-Person Couples Intensive

$6,000

Private in-person work is available by arrangement. The treatment setting is selected individually based on clinical appropriateness, privacy, availability, and scheduling. This is an arrangement for your intensive, not a network of permanent offices.

The $6,000 fee covers the clinical intensive. Therapist travel and location expenses may apply depending on where the intensive is held and are discussed and agreed upon before scheduling.

Couples make and pay for their own lodging, transportation, airfare or driving costs, meals, recreation, hospitality, and other personal travel expenses. Chad does not arrange the couple’s personal travel. These expenses and services are separate from psychotherapy.

The setting supports the work; it is not the treatment. The intensive remains clinical couples psychotherapy, not a retreat, romantic getaway, workshop, or vacation package.

Virginia Setting Options

Where Can an In-Person Virginia Intensive Take Place?

A quiet professional space or another appropriate private treatment setting may be considered. Coastal options may be available in Virginia Beach or Chincoteague, depending on treatment-space availability and scheduling. Neither area is a required destination.

Virginia Beach

A coastal option may be arranged in the Virginia Beach area. Discuss the general location first, then confirm an appropriate private treatment setting before making personal travel plans.

Chincoteague

The Chincoteague area may offer another coastal setting for private clinical work. The same $6,000 clinical fee applies, with any therapist travel or location expenses agreed upon separately in advance.

No specific venue, hotel, resort, or hospitality affiliation is implied. A preferred area does not confirm that a suitable setting or intensive date is available.

Before Making Travel Plans

Begin with fit. Confirm the details together.

  1. Start with a free 15-minute fit consultation. Discuss the relationship concerns, clinical appropriateness, preferred format, physical location, and scheduling needs. A consultation does not guarantee acceptance.
  2. Discuss the state and general location. If in-person work appears appropriate, identify a suitable Virginia area and consider available private treatment settings.
  3. Confirm the setting, dates, and costs. Any therapist travel or location expenses are discussed and agreed upon before the intensive is scheduled.
  4. Arrange your own travel. Once the treatment setting and dates are confirmed, make your own lodging and transportation arrangements.

Couples should not make nonrefundable travel arrangements until the treatment location and dates have been confirmed.

Privacy and Clinical Fit

Private care with clear professional boundaries.

The intensive is private to one couple, with no groups or shared programming. It may be useful for couples with demanding schedules, responsibilities, or public-facing roles, and remains welcoming to any clinically appropriate couple who values focused care.

Discretion is important within the standard legal and ethical limits of psychotherapy confidentiality. Privacy needs can be discussed during the consultation. Do not send protected health information or sensitive clinical details by standard email or in scheduling notes.

Screening comes before scheduling. Active or recent interpersonal violence, coercive control, intimidation or threats, severe instability, untreated substance-use concerns that prevent safe participation, or situations where either partner cannot speak freely are not appropriate for couples intensive work.

Questions Before You Decide

Planning an intensive in Virginia

Can Chad work with us if we live in Virginia?

Chad holds Virginia LMFT License #0717002631. Both virtual and individually arranged private in-person intensives are available to eligible couples. Clinical fit and applicable physical-location and licensure requirements must be confirmed before treatment.

What if one of us will be outside Virginia?

Discuss each partner’s planned physical location during the fit process. Eligibility depends on where each client is physically located at the time of treatment and the applicable licensure requirements, rather than home address alone.

Do we have to travel to Virginia Beach or Chincoteague?

No. Those are possible coastal areas, not required destinations. Another appropriate private setting within Virginia may be considered by arrangement. Virtual care is also an option when clinically appropriate and location requirements are met.

When should we book lodging or travel?

Wait until the treatment setting and intensive dates are confirmed. Couples should not make nonrefundable travel arrangements until the treatment location and dates have been confirmed.

Does the $6,000 fee include travel?

The $6,000 fee covers the clinical intensive. Therapist travel and location expenses may apply and are discussed and agreed upon before scheduling. Couples arrange and pay for their own lodging, transportation, meals, and other personal travel expenses.

Can we return to our current therapist afterward?

Yes. An intensive can be a focused episode of care within a broader course of treatment. When appropriate and with client authorization, communication with an established treating professional may support continuity of care. Coordination and future care are considered individually.
